  • I want to ask people something, and I don't know if it will work, but it takes only 10 minutes.

I want you to contact a news agency and ask them to increase their news coverage of the protests and human rights violations in Iran. Most news sites has a "Contact Us" section that provides emails or forms to contact editorial or provide feedback.

Thank the news agencies for their work in keeping people aware of current events, and ask them to increase their coverage of the situation in Iran. Point out what's happening and that the Islamic Republic is less likely to execute protesters with the eyes of the world on them.

News coverage of Iran has been sparse. With the government cracking down on the internet usage, the information we get from every-day people will dwindle. Most of the news has leaked out through social media, but we can't count on that forever. We may soon log on to Tumblr and hear absolutely nothing about Iran. We need news agencies to step up to the plate. They have resources that the average person doesn't.

No, I don't know if this will help. But we need to try.

  • i used to work in news so let me give some ways that will ACTUALLY get news orgs attention (because those contact emails are rarely watched in my experience):

    1. news orgs rely a LOT on twitter and tiktok for news gathering these days. if you see RELIABLE information about iran, boost the hell out of it. retweet on twitter, repost on tiktok. seek out that information too (search for it) and the apps will show you more.
    2. if your news outlet of choice DOES post about iran or any other issue you care about? make SURE you and everyone you know interacts with those posts from their handles a LOT, on every platform. high engagement on posts, high views and watch retention time on tiktok and youtube, and high click rates means it will be a topic they will be encouraged to keep covering.
    3. before twitter dies, find reporters who work for local news orgs near you (town/city/county/state TV news, newspapers, magazines, etc). you can do this by going to twitter, finding the @ of the show/station/publication/etc and searching it, and then switching to the people tab. look at people's bios and then save those usernames. tag them when you see something (about any story). sometimes they have their email as well. email them (nicely, they get a lot of harrassment). is there a national or bigger news org that you like and trust? use the same method to find reporters who work there and find and follow the reporters on that beat (in this case, international relations, the middle east, etc) and follow and interact with them and their posts.
    4. are there local activists (in this case from the iranian diaspora, but this works for any issue) or other groups holding events and protests to support and/or raise awareness? find and follow them, and tag these reporters.

  • i hate the ‘we’re all in this together 💕’ posts I see abt the trans community as i feel it helps to shut down very real and important conversations of intersectionality and the lack of it in trans spaces, but if you genuinely hate other trans people or groups of trans people maybe you need to sit down and remember that we are, in fact, all in this together

  • “trans women are disgusting” “trans men are all evil” “nonbinary people are the cause of transphobia” buddy. pal. these are your siblings

  • actually im encouraging yall to rb this because hating other trans people just leads to you hating yourself and right now with the way the world is, hating yourself is a death sentence

  • Okay I feel like I may have misrepresented myself: this community is filled with genuine problems with intersexuality, especially regarding transmisogyny, racism, and classism. We cannot use solidarity to ignore this. Yes, we are all here together and must fight together, but that doesn’t mean at the expense of trans women or trans ppl of color or other minority trans people. But there is legitimate danger out there and if you genuinely hate an entire group of trans people you are hurting yourself in the long run. Hating other trans people will do nothing but tear yourself down in your own mind and does nothing to help the pain we’re in. We’re all in this together means supporting one another, but we can not ignore the genuine problems and discrimination in this community.

  • It is such a beautiful thing to find someone that can both accept you in your entirety and want to help you grow.

So I’m aware I haven’t really posted anything in a while but I hope this reaches someone. My brother’s name is Efren. Growing up he used to tease and make fun of me, but among all the teasing he also helped raise me along with our mom. When he was little he wanted to be an architect. But his is the story that a lot of Mexican American working class families face: either take the opportunities available to you to attain your dreams, or curtail those in order to take care of your family. He chose his family.

After graduating high school he turned down full ride scholarships in order to stay and work to help pay the bills. It was just him, my mom, and me. After a couple of years we got stable enough economically that he was able to go to college, but after graduation we fell on hard times again and instead of finding work in his field or applying to architecture school like he always dreamed, he decided to stick around and help us again. It’s because of his choice to help our family that I was able to go to college too, something that for a time I didn’t think was possible. It’s because of him that I was able to apply to and get accepted into a PhD program in the hopes of becoming a professor. It’s because of him that my mom has a house to call her own. My mom and I owe him everything.

Yesterday, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). He’s uninsured. I’m a student, our mom works in childcare. There’s a high success rate for remission if he gets treatment, but we can’t afford it. He’s all me and my mom have, and we can’t lose him. He chose family growing up, and it’s my turn to choose him. Please, any donation helps. I just want him to come home.

I know times are tough with covid and everything so if anyone could please just spare a dollar or a reblog thatd be great. I can’t lose him.
